Floor Prep Made Easy. Introducing Okatmos® DSG: A Two-in-One Primer and Moisture Barrier

The bain of every builder’s existence is always floor prep. Moisture is the biggest culprit in construction and proper preparation must occur to prevent it from doing irreparable damage to your structure. Prevention is always better than a cure.

Luckily, we’ve just launched a new Kiesel product called Okatmos® DSG. It’s a primer and moisture barrier in one and helps cut down installation prep time before levelling, sealing, thin-bed tile installation or the installation of textile/flexible floor surfaces and parquet/engineered wood flooring. We recommend using it underneath all of our Polyflor vinyl products.

It works for both absorbent and non-absorbent substrates and is quick-drying, solvent-free and has very low emissions. It’s for interior use as a moisture barrier against increased humidity in unheated cementitious substrates. Okatmos® DSG is also a suitable primer for smooth, dense and non-absorbent substrates such as old tile, natural stone or artificial stone surfaces before levelling work or thin-bed tile installations. It’s not suitable however over sulphite liquid adhesives, magnesia based screeds and stonewood-screeds.

To start prep, make sure the substrate is dry and clean. Remove any oil based or loose products and make sure the existing substrates comply with the applicable local and national standards. When in doubt, contact our technical department. Next, apply Okatmos® DSG undiluted to non-absorbent substrates with the use of a lamb’s wool roller, a brush or an ordinary paint roller. It should always be diluted at a ratio of 1:1 for the first application on absorbent substrates and a second and third coat should only be applied when the first coat is fully dry.

It also has sanitising properties which provide odour resistance if moisture does occur. If you’re looking to cut your prep time in half and use a sanitising moisture barrier and primer with high-bond strength, Okatmos® DSG is your answer.
